Isla: Months 1, 2 and 3

Our little girl is already 3 months and time is flying by even faster with our second. Isla has been a different baby from the start. Even though I know we shouldn't we always find ourselves comparing her to our first time around with Sawyer. Oops.

Isla has been a talker since she entered this world. She would make grunts and mumbles and sounds at night time that would keep us awake. We finally found the Dock-A-Tot and she sleeps so much better at night. She nurses beside me when she gets hungry during the night which keeps this mama well rested, or well rested as a mom can be, lol. Isla nurses pretty good and was introduced a bottle about week 5. She was ok with the transition between boob and bottle but I think she prefers a bottle during the day and the boob at night.

Little Miss outgrew her newborn diapers in a few weeks and has been in a size 2 since July. She is currently in 3-6 month clothes and has been since half way through month 2. She is a healthy baby like her brother.

This little girl is the sweetest baby at times but OH MY GOSH can she flip. She has colic and major gas. We have been through the ringer with this gal. We were finally introduced to the Gerber Soothe drops and life has been completely different since. After about 3 days on the drops she was a different baby. She still gets a little fussy at night time so she takes her gas relief drops and is a happy camper.

Isla loves to lay and nap on her tummy, with supervision of course. She is a curious little thing and always wants to see what's going on. Our fiesty girl started raising her head quick. Megan, our wonderful pohotographer, was positioning her for pictures and little miss priss picked her head up and turned it the other direction on her. She started raising her head from the second week and enjoys watching brother play while she lays on her playmat.

Life is completely different with 2 versus 1. I didn't realize just how much time I actually had with 1 now that we have 2. However, I would not trade the chaos and craziness for anything.  Stay tuned things are getting interesting up in here.

38 Weeks

How far along?
38 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss?
30 pounds - I gained over 50 pounds with Sawyer and was knocking on 200. This pregnancy was pretty different as I did not swell much and I had to run around after a toddler.

Maternity clothes?
Pretty much everything. I have a few pair of large shorts with elastic bands that are pretty comfortable that I can wear. I didn't want to buy a lot of hot weather maternity clothes since I was due in the early part of summer so I've been trying to make the most out of what I had from my first pregnancy. Sawyer was born in March so that didn't leave me with many summer maternity pieces. I'm thankful  our May this year has been pretty mild so I've been able to use my leggings and some stretchy pants too. I have one pair of shorts that I feel like I have lived in lately.

Stretch marks?
No new ones except around my belly button. I'm curious to see how noticeable they will be once my tummy goes back down.

Sleep?
Still waking up at 2am but some nights are better than others. I did pretty much sleep through the night once this week which was amazing. However, the night before my 38 week appointment was awful and just knew I was about to go into labor. I even packed our bags and took them with us to my appointment. Turns out I had not progressed at all from my 36 week appointment....wah wah.

Best moment this week?

Spending time with wildcat and family. Just slowing down and enjoying the moment is amazing and not done often enough.

Miss anything?
I really miss my energy and ability to move around easily. It takes so much out of me just to get in the floor and play with Sawyer.

Movement?
Our little girl gives me fits. My OB said how she acts in the womb is an indicator of how she will act outside. This is not great news as Sawyer did not give me any problems like this little girl and we call him wildcat......uh-oh.

Food cravings?
I've wanted fruit lately but that's not really out of the norm for me. I love berries!! We stopped and bought a watermelon this week from the local market and I almost made myself sick on it. I also LOVE watermelon!

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Nope

Gender?
Baby Girl, Isla Katherine

Symptoms?
Lots of pain, pressure and Braxton Hicks. My OB suggested that I only work a couple days a week because of the long drive I have to get to work so that is exactly what I did. It has made a HUGE difference. I've also had some leaky boobs this week.

Labor Signs?
Braxton Hicks and cramping but she is still hanging in there.

Belly Button in or out?
Outy all the way and love it.

Wedding rings on or off?
Off, sadly. I feel lost without them and freak out at first when I don't feel them on my finger.

Happy or Moody most of the time?
This momma is Happy, Happy, Happy. I can't wait for our new addition to get here.

Looking forward to?
Seeing Isla Kate's little face for the first time.

36 & 37 Weeks

How far along?
36 & 37 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss?
About 28 pounds so far. I lost 4 pounds a few weeks back but I'm pretty sure the difference was because I had a morning appointment rather than my usual afternoon appointment.

Maternity clothes?
Almost everything is maternity with the exception of cardigans and a few maxi skirts.

Stretch marks?
Pretty sure I have a new one around my belly button but I haven't noticed any others.

Sleep?
hahahaha- what is sleep? I am now using the snoogle and it has been a lifesaver but I'm still not sleeping great. Bathroom breaks during the night are more frequent and getting comfortable is a challenge.

Best moment these weeks?

Finishing up the nursery and watching the belly grow. The time is getting closer!

Miss anything?
Sleep and being able to move easily.

Movement?
This girl may be a soccer player!

Food cravings?
Not much cravings lately although I am eating ice cream at night pretty regularly. #oops

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Nuh-huh

Gender?
Baby Girl.

Symptoms?
Been having Braxton Hicks and lots of pain with this pregnancy. I didn't have any braxton hicks with Sawyer nor was I in any pain. It has been completely different this time. I worked until the day I went into labor with Sawyer but I just can't handle the hour drive to work this go around. I don't know how long I will make it with this one.

Labor Signs?
Braxton Hicks fo sho.

Belly Button in or out?
I have a cute little outy going on now and I love that you can see it when I wear stuff that hugs my belly.

Wedding rings on or off?
still on

Happy or Moody most of the time?
Happy Momma for the most part except for when I;m just worn out and sleep deprived at the end of the day. Having a toddler to care for this pregnancy has been a whole new ball game.

Looking forward to?
The arrival of our baby girl!

23 & 24 Weeks

How far along?
23 & 24 weeks

Total weight gain/loss?
I weighed 158 at my last OB visit so about 18 pounds.

Maternity clothes?
Maternity and regular clothes. Mostly my pants and jeans are maternity. I have several skirts that work well with my growing belly.

Stretch marks?
No new ones yet. Continuing to lotion like crazy.

Sleep?
Sleep has become more of a challenge the past 2 weeks. I've had to add another pillow either to my back or to elevate myself more. It seems we keep passing some type of cold between us and I've been sick, again, these past few days. No fun.

Best moment these weeks?

Feeling her move about. I can ask Sawyer where his little sister is and he will pat my belly.

Miss anything?
Going to sleep and turning over in bed with ease. It's become harder to rely on my core strength with this growing belly so I have to push myself to maneuver about more than ever.

Movement?
Oh def!!

Food cravings?
No but I am loving Sonic's Breakfast Burritos these days.

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Nuh-huh

Gender?
Girl!

Symptoms?
Growing boobs and belly.

Labor Signs?
Nope

Belly Button in or out?
half in and half out if that is even possible

Wedding rings on or off?
still on

Happy or Moody most of the time?
Happy Momma.

Looking forward to?
Getting started on the new closet in our bedroom.

I'm trying to stay as current as possible on my bump posts but I swear I forget to take progress pics until I'm in my pj's or sweats. Anywho, things have been rolling along pretty well the past few weeks. We still have so much to do but will eventually get there. My sleeping has been better and have only added one additional pillow so far. I keep forgetting to break out the snoogle.

We've also started potty training with Sawyer. Having this belly has made it quite a task. Bending down and standing up constantly has been a challenge but at least I'm getting some exercise in. He has done really well but it's not exactly what I expected. Valentine's Day was pretty low key for us. I was sick, again, and Brett suffered an awful nose bleed that morning. We gave Sawyer a couple new trucks which he obsessed over. He loves to sit in the kitchen floor with us and roll them back and forth. He will point to the exact spot in the floor where he wants you to sit. The Hubs gave me a sweet card and box of Godiva Chocolates. He received a card from me with a basket of last minute goodies. Since I was so focused on prepping for potty training I forgot about Valentine's Day approaching, oops. We still had a lovely day together as a family.

What did you guys do for Valentine's? Do you have a special way you like to celebrate the day?
Hope y'all have a great one.

Make the Most of It

This was one of those rare mornings where my husbands alarm clock goes off but mine does not because it's a holiday for me. Whoop whoop!! No work, lazy day!! (sort of-lazy days since becoming a mom is completely different than before children) I lay there in bed quietly chatting with my husband as he is getting ready thinking, "I will see him off and then catch another hour or so of sleep before wildcat wakes up." Yeah, no. It's not long till I hear the jostling in his crib through the monitor on the night stand. I look over at the square screen and know what's going to follow next. On cue comes, "maaa", "momma, maa"! We were not quiet enough. Our little man is awake. Sure, I could get aggravated in this moment but instead I realize that this is a good thing as wildcat can see his daddy and give him hugs before he leaves for the week. And that's exactly what we do.

Hugs are given, kisses are exchanged and the Hubs asks Sawyer if he is going to get back in bed with mommy and he says yes. Score! I will get in a little more sleep anyway. Until- until I open my big mouth and tell daddy that we are going to make pancakes later in the morning before we go run errands. That one word was all it took. At the sound of pancakes wildcat was scooting off the bed and headed for the kitchen. Great, it's 5:30 and my child is wanting me to start breakfast, so long sleep. Oh well, more time we can see daddy before he's out the door. The Hubs is laughing at this point and Sawyer is in the kitchen demanding my presence as he points up to the mixing bowl on the counter. I'm just trying to find my robe and glasses and finally empty my pregnant lady bladder. More hugs are given and we see daddy off for the week.  I'm about to gear up for pancake batter and milk mixing when wildcat puts his head on my shoulder. "Do you want to go lay back down in mommy's bed", I ask? I receive a nodding confirmation. AWESOME!! "We can do that little buddy." To mommy's bed we go.

Wildcat has always been somewhat of a snuggle bug since he was a little babe. When I ask if he wants to lay close to mommy and cuddle up that is exactly what he does. As he lay there fidgeting with his eyes wide open I gave thanks to the Lord for moments and mornings like this. Indeed, it was in no way as I had imagined or hoped it would play out, but in actuality, it was even better. I realize that I will not always have these moments. My son will not always want to snuggle up with me and will not always wake up calling for me. He will not always care that mommy is going to make him pancakes for breakfast or that he can go back to sleep in mommy's bed. We will soon have another child in the mix so who knows what that will bring. But I want to make the most of life, of all His blessings no matter how small they may seem. So as I lay there, while Sawyer drifted back to sleep, I took it all in. His hair, his snuggles, his breathing, his touch on my hand and thanked our Heavenly Father for all of it. We never know what the next moment may bring or take away so give thanks and enjoy it. Sawyer was soon in a sweet slumber but mamma was now wide awake. What else can you do but continue to make the most of it and enjoy a hot cup of coffee in a quiet house.

Here's to starting your week off on a positive note. No matter how your day is playing out, make the most of it.

Stretch marks?
No new ones yet. I've been lotioning like crazy.

I've been a little under the weather the past few weeks which hasn't helped with sleeping. Sleep def does not come as easy these days.

Learning my little girl is healthy at our last ultrasound.

Miss anything?
Being able to bend over and tie my shoes with ease.

Movement?

Food cravings?
Eh, not really.

painting the furniture for the nursery

We had our mid pregnancy ultrasound and our little girl is a healthy baby. Thank the Good Lord. My placenta is positioned pretty low to my cervix but there is still plenty of time for it to move. We are scheduled for a c-section with this one anyway. Things have been moving along pretty smoothly for the most part. I'm slowly starting to slow down in my daily tasks as things take a little longer and a little more effort to complete. We should be getting started on the nursery in the coming weeks since hunting season has come to an end. I'm super excited for that. I'm ready to see my vision come together.

We are potty training Sawyer this weekend so I've been tied to the living room pretty much since yesterday morning. Our little man seems to be catching on pretty easily but we still have a long way to go. I will keep you all posted. Anyway, I hope you are all having a lovely weekend. Stay warm!

Cold Weather Wear

I'm pretty much in maternity clothes these days but below are some looks that would work for maternity or not. I like basic pieces that can be worn in multiple ways. I don't shop alot so when I purchase something you can bet it's versatile and going to last for a while. Below are a few looks I'm loving at the moment.

19 & 20 weeks update

19 weeks

 20 weeks
Movement?
Yep, I noticed movement about 13/14 weeks.

Food cravings?
Not much lately. However the first trimester I wanted pickles and very salty french fries like crazy.

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Nothing now but smells have been a lot more intense this pregnancy. With Sawyer smells didn't bother me very much. I also couldn't stand coffee the first trimester which was the same with Sawyer.  I can drink it now but not like I do when I don't have a bun in the oven.

Have you started to show yet?
I feel like I started to show immediately. The bloat was instant and I looked so much further along than I actually was. I was trying to keep my pregnancy a secret until the first trimester was over and my wardrobe was a tricky thing.

Gender?
GIRL!

Symptoms?
Sore boobs. I don't remember my boobs being this sore with Sawyer.

Labor Signs?
no thank goodness

Belly Button in or out?

It's a GIRL!

AHHHHHH!!!!! We are having a girl! I cannot believe it. I still wake up in the middle of the night excited thinking about all the girl stuff I get to  plan/do. I just knew we were going to have a house full of boys since it is nothing but boys on my husbands side of the family.

We decided in late October we would secretly have a gender ultrasound done the week of Christmas, since I would be 17 weeks. Whatever the result we were going to buy a pink or blue baby outfit and wrap it up for our moms to open on Christmas morning. What a gift, right?

The day of the ultrasound came and as we were sitting in the lobby waiting to be called back I started googling. (this is a habitual thing for me) I was freaking that we were too early and they wouldn't be able to tell or what if the baby was positioned so you couldn't see....anyway you get the point. But I stumbled upon a site that talked about the white lines. I had never heard of white lines indicating the sex of your child. It was interesting and just as I was in the midst of this article we were called back.

My husband was seated in the chair and I was on the table of course and the ultrasound tech (love this tech. she is awesome) was positioned between us. She knew we had a little boy at home and what our plans were for the Christmas surprise and that we wanted to see the ultrasound ourselves. She began and we could all see perfectly our little baby and she definitely had a view of the gender. However, I had no idea what we were looking at. I just kept thinking, "she hasn't said boy yet, she hasn't said boy yet". Then she made the comment, "I can tell but I'm just trying to get a good picture for you guys." As she was moving about and our baby was going across the screen my husband made the comment "looks like a boy to me". "How did he know" I thought. I can't tell anything. I never took my eyes of the screen and was yet again thinking, "she hasn't said boy yet, she hasn't said boy yet." Then she froze the image and said "do you see those three little dots there? or three little lines?" At this point I couldn't remember from the article if 2 lines were girl and 3 were boy or vice versa. But the very next sentence out of the techs mouth was, "It's a girl." Boom! Explosion of excitement from mom and disbelief from dad. I think his words were "no way!" and mine were "are you serious!?". I cannot tell you how giddy I was and how shocked Brett was. We were going to have a little girl and Brett's parents were going to be just as shocked.

We were off to buy her first little outfit to wrap up for Christmas morning. I could tell Brett was freaking out a little. He kept saying, "man, I'm going to be broke".

Christmas morning was exciting. Both moms got to open the gift and were tickled. Brett's mom wanted to know when we would be able to confirm that it was a girl since it's been nothing but boys. I told her we go back at 20 weeks but they were pretty certain it's a girl. We know a couple recently that thought they were having a girl but when delivery came she was indeed a he. Yikes! Brett's mom attends church with the girls mom and she now has Brett's mom concerned.

My 20 week ultrasound still showed a healthy baby girl so we are moving ahead with all the girly plans. I'm in the process of putting together design ideas for her nursery. We also have a name, Isla Kate. Most likely we will use the double name as well. I know, how southern, right? Well that's actually what we were going for.

I will have my 20 week bump post up soon and once I finish Isla Kate's nursery design board I will post that too. I've already changed the design twice.

I hope you all have a lovely Saturday.

we're expecting

I can't believe we are already into 2016. The end of last year seemed to fly by. Especially once we found out that we were expecting again. If you follow me in instagram you already know this as we announced back in December.

We found out, however, late September and thought we were further along than what we actually were. When we went for our 8 week ultrasound to confirm pregnancy we discovered I was in fact only 6 weeks. I was not sick at that point and since I thought I was already well into the first trimester I had decided this pregnancy was going to be much different than Sawyer's. I was wrong.

It wasn't but a week or so later the nausea hit just like last time. However, I was so exhausted this time. There were days where I couldn't even function. On top of that we were having issues with spotting so we were at the Dr every week or every 2 weeks until the first trimester was behind us. I wasn't telling people at work until after the first trimester so I was trying to hide my sickness, exhaustion and immediately growing belly. It was wild.

Little Sawyer is blessed to have his daddy because he definitely stepped in and stepped up during this time. But, once the first trimester was behind us the spotting had stopped and the nausea disappeared as it had with Sawyer. I was in good shape for the Christmas month. My favorite!!

Christmas and New Years has now come and gone and we are gearing up for the addition to our little fam jam. We have so much to do but it will all come together in time. Unfortunately, I have not been taking bump pics and giving updates as I did with Sawyer but plan to for the last half. I can't wait to keep you guys posted. What an exciting year 2016 is going to be! I'm wishing you all a blessed one! See you soon.
