Currently: Sept. 2015

Hey y'all!

I came across this little survey on Carrots & Cake and wanted to share. I've been away for awhile, shocker there, so I thought I would let you know what I've been up to this September.

Current Celebration:
The birth of my best friends son, Hawkins. He is just precious.

Current Confession:
I can't wait for Scandal this Thursday!!!!

Current Product
Loving my new concealer that came in my September Birchbox.

Current Plan
To start my food journal again and clean my diet up.

Current Book
Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Current Purchase
Black wedge booties for FALL!

Current Drink
I'm on a green tea kick. Found a Lingonberry Green Tea at World Market that is oh so tasty.

Current Holy Moly
I am so out of shape. I went running with Sawyer the other day and Holy Moly I about died, but I didn't. Just always push through.

Current Show
Witches of East End on Netflix. Almost done with it and super sad that they canceled the show *tear.

Current Want
Pair of AG jeans. I keep going to make the purchase but never pull the trigger.

Current Obsession
Anything FALL! I love fall but unfortunately here in South Alabama we don't get very much of a fall season. It stays hot here into November.

What are you currently into? Feel free to share in the comments or post elsewhere.

Below are a few action shots of Sawyer. I love that he is such a boy even when I don't. This kid keeps me on my toes, but don't they all? I wouldn't trade being his mommy for anything in the world. I'm sure you feel the same about your kiddos. Hope you guys have a great one.

Playing with Drake or I should say trying to throw the Frisbee for Drake before Drake takes it away from him. One day the roles will switch.

This kid loves to read. This was taken last Saturday during the Auburn game that we do not discuss and right before the Alabama game that is not to be mentioned. If you don't know what I'm talking about then it doesn't matter to you.

Hamming it up. I never know what reaction I'm going to get out of this kid when a camera is brought around. Smiles, total seriousness or above.

Advice for Every Mom

Really this is for every mom, soon-to-be mom, anyone who wants to be a mom and even dads, soon-to-be dads, you get the point. This is something we all need to pay attention to. I myself have done it, especially since becoming a mom.

When we announced that we were pregnant last year it soon started.......all the "advice". Now before you go get all defensive on me just hear me out. It's not that advice isn't appreciated or that it isn't wanted it's how you deliver it. Please, do not TELL. Rather offer or suggest.... "you might want to try this or have you considered xyz". I cannot count the number of times I heard, "Oh you got to do this" or "You should use x" or "this will work, don't use that". Listen, I know it worked for you and your kid, family, whatever, but just because it works for you does not mean that it will work for my kid or be the best solution for my family.

Think about your pregnancy. Think about your labor and delivery. Think about your recovery. Think about how you raised your kid, are raising your kids. Do you think this is how it went for every other single female/family out there? No, so why do we think our solution is always best? Because it worked for us. Not your co-worker or sibling or best friend.

We are all different. Let's just respect that and not try to force "what worked for me" on everyone else.

I also want to point out, before I get berated, that I am not saying you should not offer advice. I'm not saying you shouldn't try to help and I'm not saying that you shouldn't care. I'm actually trying to enforce the opposite. That we should care, love and help- by offering. Offer your advice, help, etc. However, if it is not how that person chooses to do things be OK with it and let it go and help the way they choose. Is this really so hard?

Again, I'm not saying I'm innocent in this either. I have caught myself  on several occasions offering telling this unwanted advice because, oh guess what I'm a mom now and I went through that and this is how we survived so this is what you need to do too.

Did I really just tell this pregnant person she should do X when it wasn't so long ago you were griping about people doing just that?

Yep, there I was, the offender. On the other side, the one the preggos complain about. So, I now offer any advice....as long as it's wanted. Pay attention to social cues people. It will save your time and
breath.

This post was not intended to put down anyone, but simply to bring the issue to our attention. If we would all heed this advice maybe we could become a little more helpful rather than judgmental.

Hope y'all have a great one.

Monkey Wrenches, Lemons and Curve Balls

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls and monkey wrenches and handing us lemons when we least need them.

Like when I took the day off to prep for Sawyer's first birthday and we found our self at the pediatrician's office instead.
Or when you have full intentions of getting up and out the door so you are actually "on time" for church but your little one decides not to go down for his morning nap so everything is off schedule.
Or you wake up early before work so you can enjoy that cup of coffee but end up spraying hairspray directly into your eye (don't ask).
Or when you think you are pregnant and that little stick says you're pregnant but when you go for your ultrasound the sac is empty.

Yeah, it all sucks. But you know what? Ya just got to deal. What's the point in wallowing in worry? Sure, you may feel better momentarily, but then what? You can't change it. It's already happened. So you know what you do? You figure out how to deal with what's been dealt, praise the Lord for the blessings that you have and push forward.
Life can get hard and is often crazy and just does not make sense from time to time but you are not alone. We have all had curve balls thrown our way. How we deal with it is up to us. How you react to the situation is always your choice. Don't sweat it my friends. Pick yourself up, dry your eyes, brush off the dirt and keep on going because you can bet there will be more lemons down the road. But next you will have the vodka ready.

No Fail 3 Cheese Mac N Cheese

I like to cook but I don't always have the time to create the awesome dishes I have pinned on my pinterest board, oh so yummy. But, below is one recipe I whipped up using what ingredients I had in my fridge. This recipe is oh so easy and can modified to whatever cheese or noodle tickles your fancy. Below is what I used.
  • shredded mozzarella
  • cheddar cheese
  • goat cheese
  • milk
  • salt to taste
  • water
  • elbow noodles
Cook your noodle of choice as directed. Mix in the 3 cheeses of your choice or if you really want to live on the edge go for 4. Add milk as desired.  Add salt to taste, mix and serve yo. I love me some creamy mac cheesy. It's pretty much all I ate when I was a babe and it's such a wonderful comfort food. Hope you enjoy.

*Full disclosure: I know I said this is a no fail recipe but you can scorch your noodles and have them stick to the pot LIKE I DID. Just be sure if you have a wildcat crawling or running around the house you keep an eye on your noodles and keep them stirred. Oh and I forgot to take a picture before it was devoured so I found one that was similar to what mine looked like.

Media Minded Mom

As I was driving home the other day I passed a mom and daughter playing in their yard. The sweet little girl was riding her pretty pink bike complete with training wheels and a girly helmet with blonde hair underneath. She was riding around in circles with the biggest grin on her face. Then I noticed she was looking up at her mom in what looked to me like she had accomplished something or was waiting on her mom to say something kind or approving to her daughter. But her mom was looking down at her cell phone. And that's when the thought ran across my mind, "oh dear God, is that me?". Now I don't know for certain the situation, that mom could have been checking a text from her older child or getting a message from her husband saying he was on the way home or going to be late, I don't know. But in this social media crazy world it made me wonder just how much is too much when it comes to your real life vs. social media.

My husband tells me all the time that I am addicted to my cell phone and that I am always "peckin" on it. I believe his exact words were, "Peckin. You're always peck, peck, peckin on that thing." In my defense I use my cell phone to take pictures more than I use my DSLR so I always want to keep it on me and yes, I do get a lot of texts but the vast majority is family checking in or asking about Sawyer. However, there have been times where I've caught myself scrolling through Instagram or reading blog posts when I should have been in the moment. I just wonder and worry if we are so focused on sharing our life with others on social media that we don't actually live it at times.

Growing up our parents didn't have cell phones in their back pocket, so when we were outside playing together, we were outside playing. They weren't worried about snapping a picture to remember the moment, they were in the moment, living it with us and we had the memory to call upon when needed. Perhaps I'm over thinking things but in that instant, seeing that girl look up at her mom with want and the mom respond with her face buried in the phone made my heart hurt, ya know.

Wouldn't it be awful if our kids look back to those moments and remember mommy being glued to her phone rather than actually playing with them? I don't ever want Sawyer to feel this way or have those thoughts, ever.

With all that said I have decided that, while I will keep my phone near me, I will make a conscious effort to keep it out of my hands and on silent unless necessary when we are spending time together.

As great as technology is, the last thing I want or need is some stupid device to come between me and my family.

What are your thoughts? Do you find it hard to not be a media minded mom? Do you set limits on your social media usage? I'd love to here your thoughts on this topic.

Sawyer: 10 & 11 months

As I rocked Sawyer to sleep the past couple weeks I would think, "crap, I still haven't posted his 10 & 11 month info". Yet as soon as he was asleep and I walked out of his room it was gone from my mind as I began my million and one things to get done before I could actually go to sleep for the night. FINALLY I've stopped to get it done before everything has completely left my mind.

The past 4 months have flown by. January, February, March and April have come and gone and I can't believe how much our Wildcat has grown. Here we go. My re-cap.

10 Months
We began cutting 4 teeth at once- yeah, fun! There went my nights of getting rest. He was cutting the top 2 and bottom 2 next to the center 4 that were already there. Puffs were still a favorite. He actually preferred them for dinner. We began trying to get him to use sippy cups, not so successful as he didn't understand he has to tilt his head back. I found a sippy cup with a soft straw and he took to it with ease. Wildcat also started pulling up on the couch that resulted in several spills along the way. He couldn't be more content than when outside. Bath time is one of his favorites. He loves to splash and stick his toy letters and numbers on the tub wall.  He was wearing 12-18 month clothing at this time and I began the process of looking for shoes he could learn to walk in.

11 Months
The teeth are in and sleep is getting back to normal. The pulling up has progressed to walking along the sofa. He is obsessed with cars and trucks and the vehicles that drive past our house. He could literally spend all day outside watching them pass by. Paw-paw takes him down to the pond and he watches the dogs retrieve during the day. Tec the Tractor is his favorite show. He still loves to read and likes to watch the counting and colors on the baby channel as well. Brett takes him out on the Polaris and for short rides around the yard on the K5 and Wildcat is in heaven! Nothing else is on his radar when he is in his daddy's lap cruising. He is still wearing 12-18 month clothing and will say ba baba baba which means he wants his bottle. He likes to eat what you are eating and apparently enjoys chips- salt and vinegar at that, can you believe it? But puffs are still his number one.

How to Save $ on Diapers

Where I live does not offer an abundance of shopping. I'd say there are 10-20 chicken houses for every store that you could shop at in my county. There are a total of 3 grocery stores and none of these are a large chain grocer either. Again, not an abundance of shopping options in our area. I have, however, found a great solution that saves you money in the process. I have my diapers delivered to me through diapers.com auto-ship feature.

I have my order set-up on diapers.com and every 3 weeks I have diapers sitting on my doorstep when I get home. No running out of diapers or last minute trips to the store because you realize your supply is low.

Every 3 weeks you say? That won't work for you? Well, all you have to do is adjust how often you want your shipment delivered. It took me about 2 months to determine I would need a shipment every 3 weeks in order to not run out or to avoid excess. The great thing with diapers.com is you can log on at anytime and tweak your order in numerous ways.
  • change the ship date: choose an earlier or later ship date
  • toss in one time only items: these are items you want for just this shipment and don't need them sent regularly
  • add an item to your auto-ship: need to get wipes regularly, add them to your order and they will arrive like clockwork
  • remove an item from your autoship: no longer need those wipes, just remove them.
Another great thing about using auto-ship is you get discounts for simply using the feature itself. And diapers.com constantly offers ecoupons along with your auto-ship discount. Just be sure you click the box next to the ecoupon so it is applied. I have yet to find a better deal on diapers. I do want to say that we strictly use Pampers Swaddlers so I can't speak for other brands but it would not take much to log on to the site and check the prices to give you a comparison for what you normally purchase. Even when SAMs has the swaddlers on sale they still are more than what I pay on diapers.com. for the amount I order. Below are a few images from my auto-ship to help you understand how the process works.

This is what you will first see when you open your autoship order. You can even create more than one autoship. For example: one for diapers and wipes and the other for feeding. Your totals are in the top right corner and all your discounts/promotions are below. You have the option to change your delivery date in the center or you can skip the entire shipment if you don't need it. Again I have mine set to be delivered every 3 weeks.

The orange button at the top right of the image below is available for one time items only. If you click this button it will direct you back to diapers.com main page so you can shop for items to be included on your next auto-ship order. When sopping be sure to add it to your auto-ship order and not your cart. I have used this option several times especially when I knew I had a shower or birthday party coming up or if Sawyer needed something and I didn't have time to make a trip to get it.
You can see that I have 3 items in my next delivery, the case of wipes, the hand & face wipes and the case of diapers. My shipment always contains the case of diapers and at least 1 type of wipe. You can see other items int he next image that I regularly receive but don't need them every single shipment.

I usually get the Burt's Bees Face & Hand Wipes but decided to try the Johnson & Johnson this round. I went ahead and added them to my auto-ship to receive the discount but if I don't like them I can simply log in to my diapers.com account, click on my auto-ship and change the quantity to zero and they will be removed form my auto-ship  so I don't receive them again. Likewise if I prefer them over the Burt's Bees I can do the same for that item. Since I don't need a case of wipes every 3 weeks I have the (3) travel pack as an option to rotate as well. I keep this type in my diaper bags and use the refills in a box that stays in the top drawer of Sawyers changing table.

I hope this helps any of you mommas or soon-to-be mommas out there. Diapers.com is such a great site and the customer service is unbelievable. I accidentally order the size 1 instead of the size 3 and they were beyond helpful. It was a live person that I talked with and he spoke clearly & politely. He even had patience with me while I ran to the crib because Sawyer started crying. They sent me the correct item the next day and even sent me a HADNWRITTEN note thanking me for allowing them to assist me, I mean come on, how often does that happen.

I know several who swear by the Target brand and stock up when they go on sale. But, we have had the best luck with the Swaddlers. I will say I do like the Honest Company diapers and Luvs. You just got to figure out what works for your kiddo.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Or if you have any other suggestions on how to save on diapering fire away.

Bless all you mommas out there. You are fabulous! Have a great one.

*I was not compensated for this post. All opinions are my own. I live in AL so prices may vary upon where you reside.

you melt my heart: a mommy moment

There are many many times when it is tough to be a mom, many. You can read just how hard it can be for me HERE. But there are so many instances that make it worth it. While it's nice to vent and necessary to have support to get you through those rough times it's nice to be reminded that it's not all time spent in the trenches. There are many moments that just melt your heart and remind you exactly how proud you are to be a mom.

When you wake up and are crying out from your crib, I open the door and you grin at me from ear to ear.

When I pick you up after work and as I walk through the door you spot me and start giggling and take off to get to me.

When you crawl over to my pants leg and try to pull yourself up to me because you want me to hold you.

When you slowly drift off to sleep in my lap.

When you offer me a book because you want me to read to you.

When you are playing with your toys and look up at me and smile.

When you call me mamamamama.

When you reach out for me to hold you.

When I'm carrying you in my arms and you turn to give me that sweet little grin.

When you grab my hand as you toddle across the floor because you know I got you.

When you stare at my face as I hold you in my arms.

I love you so much, more than you will ever realize until you have your own.....and in those moments you melt my heart. It makes all the headaches and hair pulling worth it. Thank you for being mine and showing me what unconditional love is.

Maternity Photos Flashback

This time last year I had a big ole belly that I felt was growing by the minute. I was large and in charge and growing more miserable by the day. I was not one of those who enjoyed being pregnant. I realized that I never posted my maternity pics so I thought I would share a few with y'all today. I definitely was not one of those cute little women with the basketball belly. But it was worth every moment.

I can't believe how much our life has changed since then. While pregnancy was not my favorite I do realize just what a blessing it is to be able to have a child of our own and a healthy one at that. Sawyer did have to stay in the NICU for 7 days but he is healthy as a horse and as big as an ox. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't thank the good Lord for him. You honestly don't know how much you can love until you have children.

Who What Wear Wednesday

WHO:
Mila Kunis, Asthon Kutcher & Baby Wyatt. Are they not just the cutest?
I'm not sold on the whole Wyatt for a little girl but I LOVE the name. It's a name we had picked out if our second child is a little boy. But I've also heard of people using Sawyer as a little girls name too. To each his own, I say.

WHAT:
Ashton Kutcher's mission to find an establishment that offers a changing table in the men's restroom, besides an airport. #bethechange I love this idea!

WEAR:
Baby Shoes! Seriously, it doesn't matter what they look like baby shoes are so freaking adorable. Ok, maybe it does matter a little what they look like but you see what I'm saying. Wildcat is starting to walk so I am trying to find a great pair that he can learn to walk in and not hinder him from becoming mobile. This is something bitter sweet for us since we know he will be on-the-go ALWAYS and our life will become even more chaotic. Oh joys of raising a babe! I've decided to give Robeez a go and see how they work for us. They even offer a printable measuring chart with instructions so you know exactly which size to order. Below are a few options I am purchasing.

P.s- measuring a baby's foot is very challenging. Good Luck.

Planning a 1st Birthday: Inspiration

THIS MONTH we will have a 1 year old on our hands. Seriously? It's been a year? sigh. I've been  gearing up and planning his little soiree. My husband keeps threatening me that if it gets out of hand we won't have one at all. lol He says it's ridiculous to spend an outrageous amount of money on a birthday the kid won't even remember. I totally agree but I still want it to be a nice get together so I'm planning a low key event that is beautiful and easy to put together, yet fun for all. Who wants to go to a party where a kid can't be a kid anyway?

I'm still in the early phases but just wanted to share with y'all my inspiration for his 1 year low key fete. We are doing a Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit theme and are hoping to have it outdoors in our backyard. March in south Alabama can call for 80 degree weather or snow! For example, yesterday the high was 77 degrees in my hometown but the northern part of the state was on alert for freezing rain and ice! I'm keeping my options open.
I created a pinterest board just for the event. Please feel free to check it out HERE.

Below are a few images from other Peter Rabbit events that I thought were pretty good and have pulled a few ideas from. Check em out.
